We are writing today to let you know that in an abundance of caution we are closing the JCC at the end of day today, Friday, March 13 through Monday, March 16. At this time we plan to reopen the JCC on Tuesday, March 17 at 5:45 AM.
There is an individual who was in our building last week playing basketball during League play on Sunday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 10 who is being tested for the Corona Virus (COVID-19). We are awaiting to learn the test results. Although we are not sure if this person has the virus, we are taking all precautions by deep cleaning the building over the next three days. These actions and our decisions were made with the guidance of the New Jersey State Board of Health.
In addition, all special events, sports leagues and teams, and children’s enrichment classes — including Swim Lessons (private and group) — are postponed for the month of March. We will communicate in the coming weeks when the classes will be made up or rescheduled.
The JCC Blaustein Early Childhood Center and the JCares program for Adults with Special Needs will both be closed on Monday, March 16 and hope to reopen on Tuesday, March 17.
We are so proud of the community we have built at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC. Every week, we see a diverse group of people walk through our doors –infants, young children, people with special needs, teens, and older adults. Our people are the heart and soul of our JCC – and that is why we are so committed to keeping everyone safe and healthy. If you or your family need special assistance during this time, please reach out to us and we will do our best to connect you with a community resource. As always, please be in touch if you have any questions.
We appreciate your cooperation and will continue to send out correspondence about further decisions as they are made.
We want to reiterate that we are pursuing the most cautious course of action. As always, your health is our top concern. Please continue to take good care of yourselves and your family.
