Spring 2021 Group Swim Lessons

 

  • Session Dates: April 11 through May 23 2021
  • JCC member registration begins: Monday March 8
  • Non-member registration begins: Monday March 29

Preschool and Youth Learn to Swim classes will be limited to no more than (3) students per class. At least (2) students must be registered in order for the class to run.

Parent/Child classes will be limited to no more than (8) parent/child pairs per class. At least (4) students must be registered in order for the class to run.

*If the class your child is registered for does not meet the class minimum you will be contacted by Thursday 4/8 offering you an alternate class to register for (if available) or the JCC will provide you with a full refund.*


COVID-19 Swim Lesson Guidelines and Policies

The health of safety of our students, swim instructors, and families is of the utmost importance. The JCC is following all COVID-19 health and safety protocols as mandated by New Jersey Department of Health.

  • All swim instructors and lesson students are temperature tested upon entry to the JCC.
  • Face coverings are required to be worn at all times throughout the JCC campus (including locker rooms).
  • Parents/guardians are permitted to watch swim lessons from the bleachers on the pool deck however a face covering must be worn at ALL times.
  • Swim instructors are wearing face shields while teaching in the water and using social distancing teaching techniques as much as physically possible.
  • Locker rooms are open for changing and restroom purposes ONLY.
  • Due to COVID-19 there will be no makeup lessons or credits offered. If your child or someone in your household is feeling unwell we ask you to stay home until you are well again.

Parent-Child (Ages 6 months to 2 years)

  • Sundays, April 11 – May 23, 2021

Provides experiences and activities for children to: Learn to ask for permission before entering the water. Learn how to enter and exit the water in a safe manner. Feel comfortable in the water. Explore submerging to the mouth, nose and eyes and fully submerging. Explore buoyancy on the front and back position. Change body position in the water. Learn how to play safely. Experience wearing a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Plus age-appropriate water safety topics.

 

Preschool Group Swim Lessons

Level 1-Introduction to Water Skills (3-5 years)

  • Sunday, April 11 – May 23, 2021

Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills. Enter water using ramp, steps or side Exit water using ladder, steps or side Blow bubbles through mouth and nose Submerge mouth, nose and eyes Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects Front glide and recover to a vertical position Back glide and recover to a vertical position Back float Roll from front to back and back to front Tread with arm and hand actions Alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on front Alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on back Combined arm and leg actions on front and back Plus age-appropriate water safety topics.

Level 2-Fundamental Aquatic Skills (3-5 years)

Helps children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and around water. Enter water by stepping in from a deck or low height Exit water using ladder, steps or side Bobbing Open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects Front float Back glide and float and recover to a vertical position Roll from front to back and back to front Tread water using arm and leg actions Combined arm and leg actions on front and back Finning arm action on back Plus age-appropriate water safety topics.

Level 4- Stroke Improvement (3-5 years)

Builds on the skills in Preschool Level 3 through additional guided practice in deeper water. Enter water by jumping from the side, fully submerge then recover to the surface and return to the side Headfirst entries from the side in sitting and kneeling positions Bobbing while moving toward safety Rotary breathing Back float Survival float Change from vertical to horizontal position on front and back Tread water Flutter and dolphin kicks on front Scissors and breaststroke kicks Front crawl and elementary backstroke Plus age-appropriate water safety topics.

Youth Group Lessons

Level 3 - Stroke Development (6 - 13 years)

Develops confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills. Headfirst entries from the side in compact and stride positions. Swim underwater. Feet first surface dive. Survival swimming. Open turns on front and back.Tread water using 2 different kicks. Front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly. Flutter and dolphin kicks on back. Plus age-appropriate water safety topics.

Levels 5 and 6 - Stroke Refinement and Skill Proficency (6 - 13 years)

  • April 11 – May 23, 2021
  • 10:30 AM-11:00 AM (30 minutes)

Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes. Shallow-angle dive from the side then glide and begin a front stroke Tuck and pike surface dives, submerge completely Front flip turn and backstroke flip turn while swimming Front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly Sculling Plus age-appropriate water safety topics.
