6th Annual March Mitzvah Madness

On the road to making a difference.

March Mitzvah Madness is a month-long initiative of our JCC that focuses on giving back to our local community.  The JCC staff and members come together to create programs and events that bring awareness to and raise funds for outside groups which hold a personal connection for our staff and members.  As a charity ourselves, the JCC recognizes that there are many people outside of the J that also need help. The JCC Board of Directors and Staff feel it is an important part of our mission to look beyond our walls and provide this assistance.  This year funds and collections benefit six designated non-profit agencies and the JCC Scholarship Fund.

What We Are Doing

BAKE SALE

  • Sunday, March 1
  • 12:00 – 4:00 PM

Baked goods will be available for sale in the JCC Lobby during the Bridgewater Winter Carnival.  Funds raised will be donated to The Valerie Fund.

The Valerie Fund’s mission is to provide individualized care to children at medical centers close to home, because we believe the most effective way to heal the children in our care is to treat them emotionally, socially and developmentally, as well as medically.

GOODIES BY JCARES

  • Wednesday, March 25
  • 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Candles, Scrubs, Soaps, and baked goods, handmade by our J Cares Interns will be on sale.

Proceeds from the sales will be donated to Mary’s Place by the Sea whose mission is to support women with cancer through integrative services which complement their medical treatment and empower, educate and support their healing: mind, body and soul.

ZUMBA-A-THON

Join the JCC Zumba Team for a Zumbathon benefiting Miriams Heart, an organization that supports adoptive and foster care children and their families. 50% of all proceeds benefit Miriams Heart and 50% benefits the JCC Scholarship fund. Zumbathon to take place in Group Fitness Studio.

The Mission of Miriam’s Heart is to radically support adopted and foster children and families.

SOCK SALE

DeFeeting Cancer Two Socks at a Time

Every pair of TatySocks is designed using artwork created by brave children who are either battling cancer, or children who have unfortunately lost their fight.

  • Socks are available at the JCC Welcome Center throughout the month of March, and at select Jewish LIFE Events.
  • $15 per pair

The mission of TatySocks is to raise money for innovative cancer research, so no other families will be told their child has cancer.

Collecting Gently Used Books Preschool through High School Aged.

Throughout the Month of March, we will be collecting new and gently used books for children, Preschool through High School Age.  The books will be sent to The Bridge of Books Foundation.  Please no text books.

  • Drop-off Bins are located in the main Lobby and near the Swim Team office.

The Bridge of Books Foundation’s mission is to provide an ongoing source of books to underserved children throughout New Jersey in order to support the development of literacy skills and encourage a love of reading.

ONE MORE BEAT: RACING TOWARDS A CURE FOR HEART DISEASE

This Special Spin Event was held in early February to coincide with Healthy Heart Month.

Join our talented JCC SPIN Instructors and special guests will be leading our group in this two hour fundraiser to raise awareness about heart disease and stroke. Cycle sessions can be broken up into 15 minute, 30 minute, or 1 hour segments, perfect for even the beginner cyclist. $40 per person with $20 from each registration fee will be donated to the American Heart Association and $20 will be donated to the Carole Webb Memorial Fund at the Bridgewater JCC. Groups in memory of a loved one or celebrating someone’s survival are encouraged. We will have the music up and the pedals moving as we cycle together for one more moment with a loved, one more medical advance in prevention, one more step towards a cure, and one more beat for awareness!
