5th Annual March Mitvah Madness
On the road to making a difference.
Our JCC loves our community and the support we receive from it. In the fall of 2014, we knew we wanted to do something big to give back to our communities.
But how? There are so many different organizations making a difference in our communities. How could we support just one? It was in this conversation that the idea of March Mitzvah Madness was born.
We don’t have to support just one group or program, we can support many. And, as the conversations continued, it became apparent that our staff and members had deep connections to a wide variety of Community Organizations and Non-profit groups. We made the decision that the different departments within the JCC would chose an organization that connected to the department.
This year, the Community Organizations and Non-profit groups we are supporting have deep roots within our JCC. The Uncle of Aviv Wagner, one of our Fitness Managers, started the Lev Foundation in Israel. Tim Pino, our Security Director, is on the Board of Directors for the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter. Our Special Needs Director, Ellie Willoughby, made a connection with the Shalva National Organization on a recent staff trip to Israel. Our Preschool has developed a relationship with the Somerset County Food Bank as we teach the kids. Our Aquatics Director, Stephanie Johnson, is the head coach of the Rising Ride, a Special Olympics swim team that calls our JCC home.
During the month of March, take a minute and talk to the staff about their charities. Row from the Heart, eat some pasta, Combat Ovarian Cancer, or support one of our other projects below.
