The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center (JCC) is hosting the JCC Second Annual Special Needs Symposium, A Day of Learning for Parents and Professionals on Sunday, October 22, 2017. The Symposium will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Robert Naseef. The day will also include a breakout session for additional learning, featuring workshops with a wide variety of professionals and experts in the field of special needs and vendors. The Symposium, which runs from 8:30am-1:00pm, will be held at the JCC located at 775 Talamini Road in Bridgewater, New Jersey. According to Paige Silberfein, JCC Associate Executive Director, “We are pleased to bring our annual Special Needs Symposium to the local community. The need for additional support, information and resources for parents and educators in the field of special needs is extremely important. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Robert Naseef as our Keynote Speaker. Dr. Naseef is a psychologist who has more than 20 years in the field and is co-founder of Alternative Choices, an independent psychology practice in Philadelphia. He is also a parent of an adult child with special needs, and we know he will be a great resource for attendees, as will all of our presenters.” In addition to the Keynote Speaker, there are multiple choices for our breakout session, featuring topics: Untangling the Laws of Special Education; Special Children, Challenged Parents, Caring Professionals–Building Partnerships; Guy Stuff—What Boys Need to Learn about Hygiene, Puberty and Sexuality; and Effective Behavior Management. A brochure detailing the Symposium, including a complete list of Breakout Session topics and presenters, is available online at ssbjcc.org and at the JCC. A certificate will be available at the end of the Symposium for those seeking professional development hours. The fee to attend the symposium is $25/person in advance or $35/person at the door and includes the keynote, breakout sessions and light breakfast. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with a variety of vendors in the special needs field. Vendor and Sponsorship opportunities are available.
