Kindergarten/Kindergarten Extension

Our Kindergarten offers two programs for our students. Full day Kindergarten is available for families who prefer a longer academic day. We also offer the option for a Kindergarten Enrichment program. The Enrichment Program is a half day option for families who want to extend their child’s academic day. Students can attend the Enrichment Program in the morning or afternoon session.

Full Day Kindergarten

This program is available from 9am-3pm five days a week. The full day program allows the classroom teacher and students to explore topics in depth and provides for greater continuity of activities. Language development and literacy activities are emphasized through developmentally appropriate, informal and intellectually engaging activities. New learning is integrated through project work and children are involved in hands on experiences with age appropriate materials and activities. Our program offers a balance of small group, large group and individual activities. Kindergarten will focus on early reading, writing, working on phonics, discussing new vocabulary, reading books chosen by the children and practicing such skills as letter recognition, letter-sound match, vocabulary, making predictions based on text, rhyming words, alphabetizing and mathematical thinking skills. Work time and Center time will include writing and drawing in journals, learning games and math activities. Our handwriting program, “Handwriting Without Tears” is used in many public and private schools.

We enjoy Shabbat and holiday celebrations as well as the Peer K program which fosters our traditions of good values.

Full day and afternoon kindergarten enrichment activities includes swimming, gym and music taught by trained instructors as part of our program. We also enjoy the opportunity to participate in our “grandfriends” programs weekly. Parents can extend their child to our “J Crew” afterschool program.
