Purim commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman’s plot “to destroy all the Jews in a single day.” It is customary for children to dress up in costumes, read the megillah (The Book of Esther), which recounts the story of the Purim miracle, give money to the poor, send gifts to friend, and eat a festive Purim feast.
Hamantaschen, the traditional cookie of Purim, are 3 sided triangular cookies with jelly or chocolate filling. They represent the hat that the evil Haman wore.
It is customary to give a Purim basket filled with hamantaschen and treats and present it to a neighbor, friend or family member. Join us on and make a Purim basket of your own!!!
