New Early Childhood Director

sara-wasserman-photoSara Wasserman has been named Director of the JCC Blaustein Early Childhood Center, it was announced by Laura Friedman, Executive Director of the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center.  The Blaustein Early Childhood Center offers childcare and preschool programs for children ages six weeks through Kindergarten Enrichment, and is located at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center, 775 Talamini Road in Bridgewater.

According to Ms. Friedman, “Sara brings enthusiasm, knowledge, and dedication to the field of early childhood and we are thrilled to welcome her to the Blaustein Early Childhood Center and the JCC.  She has a wealth of Early Childhood experience, and we know she will expand on the extensive and exceptional level of child care we are providing to families in the local community.”

During her professional career, Sara has worked as a pre-school teacher; provided keynote presentations and professional development seminars to early childhood educators and directors; and observed, mentored, and consulted with teachers in the classroom to enhance student learning environments and opportunities.  She most recently was a faculty member and instructor in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary and Literacy Education at Montclair State University since 2010.  Sara was awarded the Professing Excellence Award in 2014 for Outstanding Dedication to Student Education.  Previous professional experience includes the Dean of Faculty at Golda Och Academy in West Orange, and consultant to higher-education institutions. Sara is a published author, and has presented at national education conferences.

“It is my goal to improve upon the wonderful community at the Birnbaum JCC and Blaustein Early Childhood Center, with a renewed focus on literacy, child-centered curriculum, and classrooms that create spaces for all children to learn and succeed,” Ms. Wasserman stated.  “There is such a wonderful sense of family at the Blaustein Early Childhood Center and I feel extremely fortunate to be part of such a welcoming educational institution,” she added.  

Sara holds a B.A. in Psychology from Barnard College, Columbia University; a B.A. in Modern Jewish Studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special and General Education from the Bank Street College of Education.  Sara is progressing toward her Ph.D. in Teacher Education and Teacher Development at Montclair State University.  She resides in Livingston with her husband, Jeff and their two children, Chase and Jolie.

The Blaustein Early Childhood Center infant and toddler programs are year-round with open enrollment. The Early Childhood Center offers full day and half-day programs for 2, 3 & 4 year olds and half day Kindergarten Enrichment. Busing is available for Kindergarten Enrichment from select elementary schools in Bridgewater. Early risers (7:45am) and extended day (6:30pm M-Th.; 6:00pm on Fri.) options are available. Swim instruction, physical education, music classes and Yoga are included with the curriculum.  Summer Camp and Vacation Camp programs are also offered.
