The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center is sponsoring a month-long program of special events and activities that will benefit individuals and charitable organizations in the local community and also in Israel.  The 2nd Annual JCC March Mitzvah Madness — on the Road to Making a Difference — will kick off in early March and continue through early April.  A Mitzvah is a “good deed”.march-mitzvah-madness-image

According to Laura Friedman, JCC Executive Director, “We are so pleased to be helping people right here in our local community, as well as in Israel.  Our JCC staff has gone above and beyond in creating an atmosphere of helping and giving to others and I’m extremely proud of their kindness and dedication.  It’s gratifying to see the strong sense of ‘mitzvah’ – good deeds – that will be carried out throughout March.  As a social service agency, this is what this JCC is all about.”

March Mitzvah Madness will include a variety of events that are all open to the community including:

  • a Bake Sale on Thursday, March 10 (3:00-9:00pm) and Friday, March 11 (11:00am-5:00pm), raising funds for Israel’s Save a Child’s Heart;
  • a Zumbathon on Saturday, March 12 from 1:00-3:00pm, raising funds for the Children’s Brain Tumor Project;
  • a night of Bingo on Wednesday, March 16 at 6:30pm, raising funds for the Elle Foundation, granting second wishes to children with a recurrence of cancer; and an all-you-can-eat
  • Pasta Dinner on Sunday, April 3 at 5:00pm,  raising funds for Special Olympics Somerset County. All events will be held at the JCC, located at 775 Talamini Road in Bridgewater.

In addition, the JCC is sponsoring a number of product collections throughout March including: Kosher food items and household products for Israeli families with a family member undergoing cancer treatment in New Jersey; toiletries for the homeless to be distributed by SHIP, the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program; used towels and blankets to benefit a local animal shelter.
