Group Fitness is for Everyone

Why Group Fitness?

We all know that we should work out at least 3 to 4 times a week. Those who are new to fitness gravitate towards the fitness center. Here both cardio and strength can be worked on with minimum exposure to the other members. They feel apprehensive, in their new endeavor to get healthier, lose weight, and reverse the effects of gravity and aging.

Stepping into the Group Fitness Studio, Spin Studio, or the indoor pool is not an option.

So why is this so important?

Studies show that the Group Fitness arena creates an environment that propels the novice to sustain their workout program, twice as much, as those who only use the fitness center. Camaraderie, accountability and structure help the beginner to adapt to their new workout regime.

When you participate in any of our JFIT Group Fitness classes, there is always a goal or mission behind each one. The participant isn’t just working out for the time duration of the class. When a variety of group fitness classes is taken per week, an accumulation of benefits can be achieved by the participant; toning and shaping of muscles, losing substantial weight, enhanced cardiovascular endurance (heart health), eye- hand coordination,  balance and body stability, focused thinking….the list just goes on.

Take for instance BodyPump. BodyPump is a one hour barbell class which tones your body from head to toe. Each of the ten tracks, focuses on one specific body part for approximately 3-5 minutes. The accumulative response is what we call the REP EFFECT. By working the muscles of the body with light weights and many reps, we produce long lean muscles and a calorie burn that last throughout the day. Our resting metabolic rate goes up. This means we burn more calories per day than those who are more sedentary.

CXWORX is a 30 minute Core Class. It specifically works the muscles of the body which are needed for body stability and balance. Put simply, CX works everything from the chin to the knees. CX has been documented as helping those with loss of balance and joint instability of the shoulders, hips and knees. This class uses elastic bands and light weights to load the muscles both concentrically and eccentrically over ranges not touched by usual weight lifting alone.

BodyCombat is a one hour cardio intensive class which can be modified for all fitness levels. By using the various trainings of Mixed Martial Arts, the participant not only gets a wicked cardio workout, burning mega calories, it also shapes and tones the muscles of the body through repetitive kicking and punching. Although a tinge more challenging than most fitness classes, the aura transports the participant into a circuit training zone, allowing for maximum effort with rests in-between. The structure of this class helps eye-hand-body coordination, mental focus and produces maximum calorie burn.

BodyVive is a 45 minute Cardio and strength class. The beauty of this class is that the intensity can be dialed way up high for the conditioned athlete, or down at a lower intensity for those very new to fitness. The first five tracks work a participant’s cardiovascular endurance by using simple moves, easily mastered in a circuit style training. The remaining tracks work core stability, balance, coordination, and joint strength.

JFIT also offers Yoga, Pilates, Aquatic Fitness, Zumba/Dance Fitness, Spin, TRX-suspension training, Heavy Bag Training, Zumba Step, Long and Lean, Outdoor FitGround and so much more.

The take home message of this article is to congratulate those who have taken the first steps in greater health and wellness. Our Fitness Center is a great way to work both cardio and strength. However, the fitness center alone will only get a fitness warrior up to a certain fitness and health level. Variety in any workout will create faster long lasting change. Once an individual adopts group fitness to their workout regime, they are no longer working out, but training. Training their bodies to be in the best health and shape possible, while enhancing their mental and physical capabilities. Simply put, they reverse the effects on gravity and aging, and increase their quality of life. So what are you waiting for? Commit to a Happier, Healthier Life Now!
