Each Month, we feature a local artist in the main hallway of the JCC.  Our first artist of 2014 is Joan Handel.  Make sure you take a few minutes to view all of the photos hanging in the hall.

From Joan:

THE WORLD THROUGH MY EYE  joan-handel-photo

My name is Joan Handel and I thank you for taking the time to look at my work.  I have enjoyed taking pictures since I received my first Brownie camera in grade school.  I started taking pictures mostly to document events in my life and as an adult I have particularly enjoyed creating albums of my travels.

With the advent of photo sharing websites, I started   getting a lot of positive comments, compliments about my photography and I began thinking about it more critically.

I decided I would like to take classes and learn more about photography and photo editing.  So when I retired in June of 2012, my family gave me a membership at the Visual Arts Center in Summit, NJ and signed me up for a photography class.  I have been taking classes there ever since!

I see beautiful and spiritually inspiring things in the world around me and I want to share those sights and feelings with other people.  As you can see, I am primarily a nature photographer.  I prefer to photograph landscapes and animals which fill me with awe and warmth.  The images I have included make me happy and remind me what beauty and wonder there is in this world.  I hope I am communicating those feelings to you!

I would love to hear any comments you have to make.  Thank you for stopping to look!
